Kit724-Assignment 3
Introduction
The developed application is designed completely for VR. As a requirement of assignment 2, this application is created with the background of the museum where users can interact within the environment of museum with objects that are inside the environment. The purpose of this virtual reality application is to show users a virtual environment where users can experience how it feels to be inside the environment and interact virtually with the help of a VR headset
Description of Application
In this instance, virtual reality has the potential to make the experience of the users more immersive than before. This developed application offers a method for users to experience the museum as if they were there, virtually. The environment that is used in this application is of technology museum which has various servers and computers to display. Additionally, users will be able to engage with the objects and touch them and interact with them which is typically not permitted in real-world scenarios. There are 3d objects inside the environment where users can interact with them. Firstly, there is one cylinder that users can grab and throw it away inside the museum. For the second interaction, a cube is placed inside the museum which can change its colour when the user touches it. So, this application is mostly created to offer a different experience inside the museum including interaction also not bound to visual limitations. VR has the benefit of being able to offer a more immersive experience. Users can feel a better ambience and atmosphere regardless of whether it is text, sound, or picture. People experience it on a variety of levels. No matter how high-definition a picture is, nothing can match the realism that 3D things around them add.
Importance of Application designed in the context of the chosen subject
This application allows users to experience almost similar to a real-world museum. In real life, most museums are limited to visual experience only so to add exciting experience this application has interaction inside the environment. As a result, this allows for the enhanced overall experience of going to a museum and interacting with the object. Additionally, this application allows unique activities, which adds excitement to the learning process.
Importance of Interface Technology
Grabbing the object, and touching the object to change its properties is the interaction that is applied in this application of VR which enables user interaction. Rather than this, there are various user interaction methods that can be applied as VR technology has a wider aspect for any interaction to be implemented. Depending on the object to interact VR enables us to visually experience all the functionalities that are implemented inside the environment.
Interaction Design
The major interaction seen in this application involves the avatar teleporting and collecting objects using virtual hands which is implemented through a hand controller. People often have very little access to touch or move any collections kept in a museum, and existing online content only offers extremely limited options for visitors to engage with the mouse and keyboards. These limitations highlight the necessity for interactivity. Therefore, allowing users to actively interact by touching and grabbing objects can significantly improve their user experience. The user's experience is influenced by good interactions. Users can perform the precise tasks they want to complete by interacting with an application.
Interaction with Application
Teleportation
When pressing the buttons on the handle of the VR headset (trigger of index finger and button X) it applies to the teleport function. The teleportation of the player works when we press the trigger and button X simultaneously.
Object Grab
The object grab function works when we press the grab trigger on the handle of the VR. Headset. The object that is available in the application is the cylinder.
Object Colour Change
After touching the cube object that is implemented in the application the colour of the cube changes from yellow to red.
Technical Development
This application is designed using unity software. The designed application uses Oculus as the interface technology which is compiled in C# as the development language. The users have the ability to interact with the objects in the museum environment through the controller of the VR headset.
Description of 3D Models
Altogether there are two 3D models in number along with the environment. The acquired source and how it is been used in the application are explained below:
Cube: This object helps to interact with it and changes its colour when it is touched from yellow to red and vice versa.
Cylinder: This object is designed and implemented in the application to be grabbed by the player. This object is grab enable which allows users to grab the object and throw it.
Environment: The main theme of the application that is designed is using this environment which is configured as the environment to be used.
